Sandwich King was an idea born out of a discussion at a meeting of the “Creativity Club” that I started with my brother Ruth and our friend Rob where we get together and just talk about our creative pursuits. At one of our meetings, Rob was showing off some video game development software that he had purchased, and we needed a simple idea to test it out. One of us threw out the idea “Sandwich King” with no explanation, and a new project was born. That initial session didn’t develop the idea into anything meaningful, but it planted the seed. A while later, we were discussing fun ideas for projects to work on and Sandwich King once again reared its bready head. We pitched some ideas and eventually settled on a story about a prince in the Sandwich Kingdom, a land where everyone’s lives revolve around sandwiches:
DesignThe game has two modes of play. The first game mode is open world, where the player can wander around the Sandwich Kingdom, explore different regions, and meet different characters. The second mode is a sandwich building mini-game (“sandwich battle”) where the player designs and builds sandwiches. Sometimes the goal of a sandwich battle is simply to fulfill a customer order and sometimes the player has to compete against an opponent to build the better sandwich.
